Mr. & Mr.est un studio de création implanté à Montpellier dans le sud de la France et composé du duo de designers Alexis Lautier et Pierre Talagrand. Principalement auto-édité, Mr.&Mr. bouleverse nos habitudes quotidiennes. Il mêle une pratique hybride d’un design qui allie artisanat, détournement des matériaux et des usages et affranchissement de l’innovation au profit d’une sensibilité artistique singulière. Les objets de Mr.&Mr. intègrent les notions de temporalité, d’usure, de mobilité et d’expérience pour l’usager. Leurs créations naissent souvent d’une anecdote ou d’une observation drolatique du monde qui nous entoure. Le processus de réalisation des objets laisse très souvent des stigmates esthétiques ou usuels sur les productions à travers le choix des matériaux, de leur façonnage ou de leur utilisation. La notion d’erreur joue un rôle déterminant dans l’élaboration de chaque projet. Sa prise en compte est un leitmotiv, une position volontairement créative dans le champ du design actuel. Le travail de Mr.&Mr. ressemble à un work in progress permanent au service d’une idée récurrente : « architecturer des projets à partir d’une idée folle ». Le duo raconte ainsi des histoires, poétise les fonctionnalités de l’objet et apporte un imaginaire qui reste connecté aux besoins quotidiens.
Mr.&Mr. is a Montpellier-based design studio formed by the design duo Alexis Lautier and Pierre Talagrand . Mr.&Mr. self-publish most of their work that signifies a radical departure from our usual daily routines. Combining craftsmanship and the transformation of materials and uses, the work of Mr.&Mr. comprises an effortless blend of hybrid design that works outside of the confines imposed by the notion of innovation. Indeed, all of these facets of their work contribute to Mr.&Mr.’s unique artistic sensibility. The notions of time, wear and tear, mobility as well as the user’s experience find themselves embedded in the texture of the objects created by Mr.&Mr. Their pieces more often than not arise from anecdotes or an amusing observation borrowed from the world around us. Due to the choice of materials used, the finishing work carried out and the usage of the finished items themselves, the fabrication processes employed frequently leave aesthetic or familiar markings on the objects produced by Mr.&Mr. The concept of error has become a decisive factor in the development of all of Mr.&Mr.’s projects. Its integration into the fibre of the objects themselves is now a leitmotiv of their work and highlights their explicitly creative stance within the field of contemporary design. Mr.&Mr.’s production can be likened to an ongoing work in progress that aims at giving form to their ever-present ambition of “building projects based on crazy ideas.” The design duo, as such, has many stories to tell, enjoys waxing lyrical about the functionalities of the objects and conjures up imagery that maintains its links with our daily needs.
